Dr. Janardhan Rao Jagini — Head of Department in Hyderabad

Dr. Janardhan Rao Jagini is Head of the Department of ENT at KIMS Hospitals in Secunderabad, Hyderabad, with more than 49 years of experience.

Ear work leads a long clinical list: chronic middle ear disease, hearing loss, chronic tinnitus, vertigo and cochlear implant surgery, with pediatric cochlear implant surgery and pediatric hearing loss recorded separately. The nose accounts for chronic sinusitis, chronic rhinosinusitis with polyps, septoplasty, turbinoplasty and sinus surgery. The throat and airway account for tonsillitis, tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, voice disorders, sleep apnea surgery, pediatric airway disorders and thyroid surgery.

His qualifications span two systems. He read MBBS at Osmania Medical College between 1972 and 1978 and took his MS in ENT there between 1980 and 1983, followed by a DNB in 1987. He then qualified for practice in the United States, passing all three USMLE steps and gaining ECFMG certification in January 2005, and held a fellowship in pediatric otolaryngology at the Children's Hospital of Michigan in Detroit from April 2005 to April 2007. That fellowship, taken nearly thirty years into the career, accounts for the pediatric entries on his list.

He has also worked at the Govt. ENT Hospital in Hyderabad, Apollo Hospitals and Sunshine Hospital in Secunderabad.

His awards are for research. He took the RAF Cooper Award in 1993 for pioneering work on determination of the obstructive site in OSA, the Dr. P.G. Vishwanathan Gold Medal in 1991 for cephalometric analysis, a gold medal at the AOI South Zonal Conference in 1994, and the E. Merk Award in 2000 for a classification of nasal septal deviations.
