Prof. Dr. Essam ElToukhy

Prof. Dr. Essam ElToukhy is a Consultant Ophthalmologist with specialized expertise in oculoplasty, cosmetic and reconstructive eye surgery at Burjeel Medical City in Abu Dhabi. He holds an M.B.B.Ch degree (1989) and a Master's Degree in Ophthalmology from Cairo (1993), alongside a Diploma in Medical Education and Planning from Cairo (2001). With 30 years of clinical experience, he has performed more than 15,000 oculoplastic procedures across his career.

Before joining Burjeel Hospital, Prof. ElToukhy held positions at leading medical institutions in the United States, Canada, Egypt, and Kuwait. His clinical interests span eye muscle surgery (squint correction), eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), orbital procedures, ptosis repair, and other complex eye conditions. He is fluent in Arabic, English, and French.

Prof. ElToukhy has established himself as an educator and researcher, having authored two specialized books on oculoplasty that have been downloaded over 40,000 times, edited seven additional volumes, and contributed to 11 co-authored books. His scholarly output includes over 40 peer-reviewed publications in major medical journals. He has lectured, conducted surgical training courses, and performed procedures in more than 30 countries, mentoring hundreds of ophthalmology trainees over 24 years.
