What is Transjugular Liver Biopsy?
Transjugular liver biopsy samples the liver through a hepatic vein from the neck when a percutaneous needle is considered unsafe because of coagulopathy, ascites or selected anatomy. Under imaging, a jugular vein is accessed, a catheter reaches a hepatic vein and a needle obtains tissue from within the vein. Pressures may be recorded.
