What is Urinary Diversion?
Urinary diversion re-routes urine away from a removed or non-functioning bladder to the outside of the body. The most common form is the ileal conduit, in which a short segment of small bowel carries urine from the ureters to a stoma on the abdominal wall that drains continuously into an external appliance; continent pouches emptied by catheter are an alternative.
