What is Bile Duct Stone Removal?
Bile duct stone removal uses ERCP techniques — sphincterotomy, balloon or basket extraction and sometimes lithotripsy — to clear stones from the common bile duct. After cannulation, a sphincterotomy is often performed. Stones are extracted with a balloon or basket; mechanical lithotripsy is added when needed. A temporary stent may be left if clearance is incomplete.
