Quick Answer
Hypospadias Repair in India is typically planned at $2,500–$7,000 per operation, with 2–5 nights; paediatric ward as the stored hospital-stay guide. The range usually covers the named surgeon, anaesthesia, theatre time, standard consumables, quoted ward nights and routine pathology; imaging before arrival, upgraded devices, extra nights and treatment after departure are commonly separate. $12,000–$30,000 is the comparison reference.
Distal repairs are quicker and single-stage; proximal repairs need flaps or grafts and often two operations. Two operations six months apart mean two admissions, two trips and two invoices.
- India cost range
- $2,500–$7,000
- Typical starting point
- $2,500
- Typical hospital stay
- 2–5 nights; paediatric ward
- Procedure time
- Commonly about 1–3 hours of theatre time depending on severity
- Recovery
- Swelling, bruising and irritability are expected for one to two weeks, with the dressing and stent removed at the first review.
Major cost factors: severity and position of the opening, single versus two-stage repair, curvature and plate quality, redo surgery. International patients should also budget for accommodation, airport transfers, a medical visa, medicines and follow-up.
Often quoted separately: changed operative scope; complications and re-intervention; premium devices and consumables; later treatment; travel and living.
Why request a cost through GAF rather than a hospital?
Writing to one campus gets you that campus’s package. A GAF request is reviewed against your records and returned as suitable doctor and hospital options with an indicative, itemised estimate. There is no obligation to book.
- Doctor review first. The number follows a reading of your imaging, test results and clinical records, not a brochure range.
- Hospital options. You can compare listed campuses before you travel, instead of starting over with each international desk.
- International-patient coordination. Visa letters, records routing and companion logistics sit with the same request.
During fetal development the urethral folds normally fuse along the underside of the penis to the tip. In hypospadias fusion stops early, leaving the opening anywhere from just below the tip (distal) to the scrotum or perineum (proximal). The tissue beyond the opening is often thin and tethered, causing curvature. The further back the opening, the more tissue must be built and the more complex the repair.
This is not circumcision, which should be avoided before repair because the foreskin is often needed, and not adult urethroplasty for acquired stricture, a separate slug. The stored range is a single-stage repair band; planned two-stage repairs for proximal hypospadias, fistula or stricture revision and hormonal pre-treatment are not presumed inside it.
This guide compares quotations; it cannot diagnose, choose an approach or decide timing. A urologist must connect symptoms, imaging and laboratory findings and explain individual uncertainty.
What Is Hypospadias Repair?
Hypospadias repair is reconstructive surgery, usually in infancy or early childhood, for a congenital condition in which the urethral opening sits on the underside of the penis rather than at the tip, often with downward curvature (chordee) and an incomplete foreskin. The operation creates a new urethral channel to the tip, straightens the penis and reconstructs the skin.

When Might Hypospadias Repair Be Considered?
Hypospadias repair may be considered for boys with a urethral opening away from the tip, particularly when the stream sprays or points downwards, when curvature is present, or when the appearance is expected to cause difficulty; timing is commonly between about six and eighteen months of age, though older children and adults with untreated or failed repairs are also treated.

Hypospadias Repair cost in India
$2,500–$7,000 is the stored India planning range for hypospadias repair, per operation, and $12,000–$30,000 the stored self-pay comparison. Neither is a guaranteed package; a changed approach, extra imaging, a longer stay or a second stage alters the final amount.
A usable estimate names the surgeon, campus, approach, hypospadias reconstruction, stent and dressing, anaesthesia, ward nights, pathology and follow-up, with professional, facility, device, imaging and pharmacy lines separated so two hospitals can be compared line by line.
Budget separately for flights, visa, insurance, transfers, companion, lodging, meals, extra nights and local follow-up unless expressly included.
Planning Range ≠ Final Hospital Quotation. Examination, current imaging, urine culture and anaesthesia review by a named pediatric urologist come before candidacy, approach, risks and a final offer are meaningful.
Planning range or quotation?
The $2,500–$7,000 figure is an indicative planning range. A final hospital quotation is itemised, issued after a consultant reviews your records, and still subject to what is found clinically.

What is usually included in a Hypospadias Repair package?
No two hospitals draw the line in the same place, so read an estimate for what it excludes as carefully as for what it covers. The pattern below is what listed campuses typically bundle into a surgical estimate for this procedure. Anything not written into your estimate should be assumed to be extra until the hospital confirms otherwise.

What can increase the cost?
These are the drivers that actually move a bill for this operation, in rough order of how often they do it. Most of them are clinical decisions rather than commercial ones, which is why an honest estimate is written after a records review rather than before it.
- Severity and position of the opening
- Distal repairs are quicker and single-stage; proximal repairs need flaps or grafts and often two operations.
- Single versus two-stage repair
- Two operations six months apart mean two admissions, two trips and two invoices.
- Curvature and plate quality
- Severe chordee or a poor urethral plate lengthens surgery and may change technique on the table.
- Redo surgery
- Scarred tissue after failed repair needs buccal grafts and more time.
- Paediatric anaesthesia and ward
- Children's anaesthesia, nerve blocks and parental accommodation change the episode.
- Hormonal pre-treatment and imaging
- Testosterone before surgery in selected cases and kidney ultrasound add lines.
- Diagnostics before and after
- CT urography, MRI, cystoscopy, urodynamics or biopsy each add lines when not bundled.
- Anaesthesia and fitness
- Age, heart or lung disease, diabetes and anticoagulation change work-up, monitoring and ICU probability.
- Hospital category and room
- Campus tier, room class and city all shift nursing, facility and consumable pricing.
- Length of stay and recovery
- Extra nights for drainage, fever, bleeding or slow bladder recovery are billed daily unless capped.
Hypospadias Repair: approaches and where they differ
The approach is selected for the examined patient, not from a quality ladder. Each option carries its own consumables, theatre time, stay and follow-up, so a quotation must name it.
Swipe to compare surgical approaches →
| Approach | Relative complexity | GAF planning range | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tubularised incised plate (TIP / Snodgrass) | Individual assessment determines suitability | No separate GAF sheetRelative complexity only | The most common distal repair: the urethral plate is incised, tubularised and covered with a flap. |
| Onlay or tubularised preputial flap | Individual assessment determines suitability | No separate GAF sheetRelative complexity only | Foreskin tissue on its blood supply builds a longer channel for mid or proximal hypospadias. |
| Two-stage repair with graft | Individual assessment determines suitability | No separate GAF sheetRelative complexity only | For proximal cases with poor plate or severe curvature: graft placed first, tubularised six months later. |
| Redo repair | Individual assessment determines suitability | No separate GAF sheetRelative complexity only | Correction of fistula, stricture or breakdown after previous surgery, often using buccal mucosa. |
Planning ranges appear only where GAF Healthcare already publishes a cost sheet for that operation. Other rows describe relative clinical complexity and should not be read as prices.
Pediatric urology: the subspecialty behind Hypospadias Repair
Pediatric urology treats congenital and childhood conditions of the kidneys, ureters, bladder and genitalia in a children's anaesthesia and ward environment. Timing relative to growth, single versus staged repair and family logistics matter more than in adult practice.
Timing of repair and why circumcision should wait
Most paediatric urologists repair hypospadias between roughly six and eighteen months, when anaesthesia is safe, tissues handle well and the child is unlikely to remember the operation. Later repair is entirely possible but healing and psychological considerations differ.
The foreskin is frequently used as a flap or graft, so ritual or routine circumcision before repair can remove the tissue the surgeon needs. Families planning circumcision should discuss it with the urologist first; it is often performed as part of the repair.
Fistula, stricture and long-term follow-up
A urethrocutaneous fistula appears as a second stream or a drip from the underside and usually needs a small revision at least six months after the first repair. Meatal stenosis shows as a thin, forceful stream or straining. Both are more common after proximal repairs and are the main reasons follow-up continues into childhood.
Toilet training, stream direction, appearance at puberty and, later, sexual function are reviewed over years. A home paediatric urologist should receive the operative note and a written follow-up plan before the family leaves India.
Risks and side effects of Hypospadias Repair
Risks include urethrocutaneous fistula (a leak of urine through the skin), meatal stenosis or urethral stricture, wound breakdown or glans dehiscence, residual curvature, urethral diverticulum, bleeding, infection, poor cosmetic result and the need for revision surgery, more likely with proximal hypospadias and redo repairs.
Ask before travel who pays for re-intervention, transfusion, ICU, prolonged drainage, readmission or a second stage.
Hypospadias Repair cost: India vs other medical tourism destinations
India and United States values use stored GAF planning ranges; the other countries require direct quotations. Compare the same diagnosis, approach, devices, anaesthesia, ward category, pathology and complication terms for hypospadias repair; a lower headline with a different approach is not like-for-like.

| United Arab Emirates | Confirmation requiredIndicative planning estimate* | Higher than India | Quotation required. Professional, theatre, device, imaging, pharmacy and follow-up charges are often billed separately and require written confirmation. |
| Singapore | Confirmation requiredIndicative planning estimate* | Higher than India | Private self-pay varies. Request an estimate tied to the imaged anatomy, chosen approach, named device or laser and the expected number of admissions. |
| Germany | Confirmation requiredIndicative planning estimate* | Higher than India | Private billing varies. Eligibility, professional billing, implant scope and postoperative urology follow-up require direct provider confirmation. |
| United Kingdom | Confirmation requiredIndicative planning estimate* | Higher than India | Private self-pay varies. Overseas patients should verify acceptance, quotation boundaries, urgent access and handover to a local urologist before travelling. |
| United States | $12,000–$30,000 | ≈4.4× India | Stored self-pay reference. Surgeon, anaesthesia, facility, device and pathology charges may be separate; $12,000–$30,000 is a comparison range, not a bundled quotation. |
International comparisons are indicative. Currency, changed findings, a different device or approach and length of stay can change the final amount.
Why do international patients consider India for hypospadias repair?
Some patients consider India for hypospadias repair because named urologists, endoscopic and laser platforms, robotic systems, transplant programmes and a national self-pay range are visible in one place. Price alone is not a clinical reason to travel, and listing does not establish acceptance.
Evaluate surgeon, licensure, campus, device traceability, ICU and dialysis backup where relevant, pathology quality, urgent access and home handover. No provider is ranked and no outcome is promised; unstable disease, insufficient records or suitable local care can make travel inappropriate.

Clinical detail
How the procedure is performed
Under general anaesthesia with a caudal or penile block, the penis is degloved and straightened if curved. For distal hypospadias the urethral plate is tubularised (TIP or Snodgrass repair) over a small stent, often with a dartos flap for cover. For proximal forms a longer channel is built from foreskin or buccal graft, sometimes in two stages months apart. The glans is reconstructed and skin closed, and a dressing and stent or catheter are placed.
Monitoring covers pain control, bleeding, dressing integrity and stent or catheter drainage into a double nappy or bag. The dressing and stent are usually removed after five to ten days. Parents watch for fistula (a second stream), spraying or difficulty voiding as healing completes over weeks.

Main variations
- Tubularised incised plate (TIP / Snodgrass)
- The most common distal repair: the urethral plate is incised, tubularised and covered with a flap.
- Onlay or tubularised preputial flap
- Foreskin tissue on its blood supply builds a longer channel for mid or proximal hypospadias.
- Two-stage repair with graft
- For proximal cases with poor plate or severe curvature: graft placed first, tubularised six months later.
- Redo repair
- Correction of fistula, stricture or breakdown after previous surgery, often using buccal mucosa.
Preparation
Assessment includes examination of the opening's position, the degree of curvature, the quality of the urethral plate and foreskin, the position of the testes, kidney ultrasound in proximal or syndromic cases, a paediatric anaesthesia review and sometimes hormonal or genetic testing when hypospadias is severe or associated with undescended testes.
Clinicians direct anticoagulants, antiplatelets, diabetes medicines, fasting and hygiene. A positive urine culture is usually treated first and can postpone surgery.
Hospital stay and recovery
Most children stay one to three nights; the stored 2–5 nights; paediatric ward reflects that. Some distal repairs are day cases, while proximal or two-stage repairs stay longer. Swelling, bruising and irritability are expected for one to two weeks, with the dressing and stent removed at the first review. Flying is usually discussed after the stent is out, the child is voiding comfortably and the wound is healing without fistula or infection, often around ten to fourteen days after surgery.
Keep catheter, stent or wound care clean. Seek urgent urology help for the child not passing urine for many hours, heavy bleeding through the dressing, fever, a dressing or stent that has slipped, or severe swelling.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Hypospadias Repair cost in India?
Hypospadias Repair is typically planned at $2,500–$7,000 per operation. This stored national range is not a quotation; approach, devices, ward nights, pathology and written terms determine the final amount.
When is hypospadias repair considered?
Hypospadias repair may be considered for boys with a urethral opening away from the tip, particularly when the stream sprays or points downwards, when curvature is present, or when the appearance is expected to cause difficulty; timing is commonly between about six and eighteen months of age, though older children and adults with untreated or failed repairs are also treated.
Is hypospadias repair in India automatically cheaper than at home?
It may cost less than some self-pay markets, but quotations are not automatically comparable. Compare approach, surgeon, devices, ward category, pathology and complication terms; $12,000–$30,000 is the stored comparison reference.
What assessment is needed before hypospadias repair?
Assessment includes examination of the opening's position, the degree of curvature, the quality of the urethral plate and foreskin, the position of the testes, kidney ultrasound in proximal or syndromic cases, a paediatric anaesthesia review and sometimes hormonal or genetic testing when hypospadias is severe or associated with undescended testes.
How long is the hospital stay after hypospadias repair?
Most children stay one to three nights; the stored 2–5 nights; paediatric ward reflects that. Some distal repairs are day cases, while proximal or two-stage repairs stay longer. Discharge is based on clinical criteria, not a package calendar.
What are the important risks of hypospadias repair?
Risks include urethrocutaneous fistula (a leak of urine through the skin), meatal stenosis or urethral stricture, wound breakdown or glans dehiscence, residual curvature, urethral diverticulum, bleeding, infection, poor cosmetic result and the need for revision surgery, more likely with proximal hypospadias and redo repairs.
When can an international patient fly home after hypospadias repair?
There is no fixed flight day. Flying is usually discussed after the stent is out, the child is voiding comfortably and the wound is healing without fistula or infection, often around ten to fourteen days after surgery. The treating team must document travel fitness.
Will my child need more than one operation?
Distal hypospadias is usually corrected in one operation. Proximal hypospadias with severe curvature is often planned in two stages about six months apart, and a proportion of all repairs need a later revision for fistula or narrowing.
Can hypospadias be repaired in adults?
Yes, though tissues are less forgiving, complication rates are higher and buccal grafts are used more often. Adults with untreated hypospadias or failed childhood repairs are treated by reconstructive or paediatric urologists with adult experience.
