It may be considered after an epilepsy team confirms drug resistance and reviews resective or disconnective surgery, dietary therapy and other neuromodulation options.
What is the most important distinction for vagus nerve stimulation implantation?
VNS is not resective epilepsy surgery and not Deep Brain Stimulation. It is usually adjunctive rather than a cure, and one exact CMS card should remain one rather than being expanded generically.
What assessment is needed first?
Review seizure type and burden, Video EEG, imaging, medicines, prior surgery, voice and swallowing, cardiac history and device follow-up access at home.
What happens during it?
