Quick answer

Quick Answer

What is Pulmonology?

Pulmonology assesses and treats diseases of the lungs, airways and pleura. GAF’s current India catalog includes diagnostic sampling, therapeutic bronchoscopy, pleural procedures and lung transplantation; the appropriate service depends on imaging, breathing reserve, oxygen needs, bleeding risk, the clinical question and whether a result will change treatment. This Bengaluru page is limited to hospitals with a listed pulmonologist relationship.

City context

Why patients consider Bengaluru for Pulmonology

Bengaluru has tertiary respiratory medicine, interventional pulmonology, sleep and advanced-lung-disease services across several multi-specialty centres. This page does not infer that every centre performs bronchoscopy or has every approach listed. Name the campus with a dedicated bronchoscopy suite, continuous respiratory monitoring, pathology and microbiology handling, anaesthesia support and access to rigid bronchoscopy or ICU if escalation is needed. Doctor and hospital cards in Bengaluru resolve only from exact live CMS relationships for Bronchoscopy. If that exact relationship is absent, cards must remain empty; a generic Pulmonology or hospital label cannot verify current acceptance. This is a catalog gap, not an availability or quality claim.

This page does not infer that every centre performs EBUS or has every approach listed. Confirm the named campus has linear EBUS and Doppler equipment, compatible needles, anaesthesia and respiratory rescue capability, and a documented pathway for cytology, cell block, microbiology and molecular specimen handling; ROSE should be claimed only when scheduled. General accreditation does not establish current bronchoscopy acceptance or equipment. Name the campus with a dedicated bronchoscopy suite, continuous respiratory monitoring, pathology and microbiology handling, anaesthesia support and access to rigid bronchoscopy or ICU if escalation is needed.

Send chest ct or hrct report and complete image files showing the airway or lung target, previous bronchoscopy, lavage, cytology, histopathology and microbiology reports and current oxygen or respiratory-support details where applicable.

Obtain written acceptance from a named pulmonologist or interventional pulmonologist and verify the campus, anaesthesia, ICU backup, device availability and pathology pathway.

Kempegowda International Airport: The airport is distant from most hospital districts. Name the imaging site, procedure campus and pathology-return visit so cross-city travel is not added during early recovery. Accommodation near the confirmed campus is more useful than an airport hotel, especially after sedation or while a chest drain remains. Milder weather does not remove the risk of post-biopsy pneumothorax, fever or oxygen desaturation; complete the scheduled review before onward travel.

Obtain written acceptance from a named pulmonologist or interventional pulmonologist and verify the campus, anaesthesia, ICU backup, device availability and pathology pathway.

Treatment guides

Canonical GAF treatment content

  • Bronchoscopy treatment guide

Bronchoscopy is a minimally invasive airway procedure in which a thin flexible scope with a light, camera and working channel passes through the nose or mouth, larynx and trachea into the bronchi. It can inspect the airway, wash cells and microbes from a lung segment, brush or biopsy a lesion and, in therapeutic cases, remove secretions or treat an obstruction.

  • EBUS (Endobronchial Ultrasound) treatment guide

Endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) combines flexible bronchoscopy with a linear ultrasound transducer at the scope tip so structures beyond the airway wall can be seen and sampled. EBUS-guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) commonly targets defined mediastinal and hilar lymph-node stations or a central peribronchial mass.

  • TBNA (Transbronchial Needle Aspiration) treatment guide

Conventional transbronchial needle aspiration (TBNA) passes a sheathed needle through the bronchial wall into a lymph node or peribronchial lesion selected from CT and airway landmarks, without real-time ultrasound. Aspirated cells and fragments are prepared for cytology, cell block and selected microbiology.

Cost guides

Indicative planning ranges

India planning ranges are not city tariffs, hospital quotations or patient-specific prices. A named hospital must confirm the written estimate.

Conditions

Explicitly related conditions

Conditions appear only when the controlled specialty profile or canonical procedure content records the relationship.

  • Airway lesions and obstruction

Visible narrowing, tumour, retained secretions or unexplained airway change may require diagnostic or therapeutic bronchoscopy after CT and clinical review.

  • Lung nodules and thoracic lymph nodes

Target location and the tissue needed for pathology or molecular testing guide EBUS, TBNA, endobronchial or transbronchial sampling.

  • Diffuse and interstitial lung disease

Selected cases may need transbronchial forceps or cryobiopsy only after multidisciplinary review of HRCT pattern, physiology and procedural risk.

  • Pleural effusion and pleural disease

Fluid, pleural thickening or suspected infection or malignancy may require drainage, biopsy or thoracoscopic inspection according to imaging and stability.

  • Airway foreign body

Suspected aspiration can require urgent flexible or rigid bronchoscopy with anaesthesia and airway-rescue planning.

  • Advanced lung disease

Lung transplantation is a separate multidisciplinary programme requiring disease, functional, psychosocial, donor and transplant-risk assessment.
