Prof. Dr. Basil Ammori

Prof. Dr. Basil Ammori is a Consultant Laparoscopic, Bariatric, General, Gastrointestinal & Hepatobiliary Surgeon at Burjeel Medical City, Abu Dhabi. He holds degrees from the University of Baghdad (MBChB, 1986) and the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Edinburgh, where he completed his surgical training between 1989 and 2000. He was appointed a Hunterian Professor by the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2000.

With 35 years of clinical experience, Prof. Ammori has performed over 6,000 laparoscopic procedures. He led the Northwest of England's Bariatric Surgery service as a Consultant in Manchester from 2000 to 2017, and subsequently worked at King Hussein Cancer Center in Amman, Jordan, promoting minimally invasive resections for stomach, colon, liver, and pancreatic cancers. He served as an Honorary Professor of Hepatobiliary and Bariatric Surgery at the University of Manchester from 2011 to 2019.

Prof. Ammori was the first to introduce the laparoscopic Whipple procedure in the United Kingdom. His clinical interests encompass bariatric surgery, hepatobiliary and pancreatic procedures, cancer resections, and the management of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). He maintains active involvement in medical education and research, with over 190 publications and book chapters to his name.
