Why consider treatment in India?
Many international patients consider India for cervical cancer treatment for several reasons, including:
More affordable estimates
Competitive indicative costs compared with many other countries, for similar clinical standards.
Internationally accredited hospitals
Hospitals experienced in treating international patients.
Experienced specialists
Doctors who regularly manage similar cases.
Care coordination support
A team to help with planning, medical translation and follow-up.
What is Intracavitary Brachytherapy?
Intracavitary Brachytherapy (ICBT) is a form of internal radiation therapy used mainly in the treatment of cervical cancer, where a radioactive source is placed directly inside the cervix and vagina via an applicator. It allows a very high dose of radiation to be delivered precisely to the tumor while sparing surrounding healthy tissues such as the bladder and rectum. It is typically given after external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) as part of a curative treatment plan.
Who may be considered?
Intracavitary Brachytherapy may be considered after a qualified specialist reviews your reports and medical history. Suitability varies from person to person and must be assessed by your treating doctor.
How does it work?
Uses High Dose Rate (HDR) sources with MRI or CT-based 3D planning to precisely map the tumor and organs at risk, allowing highly individualized dose delivery over 3-5 short sessions.
HDR Image-Guided Brachytherapy (MRI/CT-based)
Most AdvancedUses High Dose Rate (HDR) sources with MRI or CT-based 3D planning to precisely map the tumor and organs at risk, allowing highly individualized dose delivery over 3-5 short sessions.
Comprehensive Investigations
Pelvic MRI, CT scan, CBC, kidney and liver function tests, ECG, HPV/Pap smear review, examination under anesthesia
Treatment / Procedure Estimate
Stay in India
Usually Included in Hospital Package
- Radiation oncologist and medical physics consultation
- Applicator insertion under anesthesia
- MRI/CT-based treatment planning
- All HDR brachytherapy sessions
- Inpatient stay during treatment days
- Post-treatment imaging review
Usually Not Included
- External beam radiotherapy (EBRT) course prior to brachytherapy
- Chemotherapy medications
- International flights and visa costs
- Long-term follow-up scans after discharge
- Companion accommodation and meals
Recovery and follow-up
Most patients experience mild vaginal spotting, cramping or fatigue for a few days after each session, with follow-up pelvic examinations and imaging typically scheduled 6-12 weeks after completing the full radiation course. Vaginal dilator use is often advised to reduce long-term vaginal stenosis.
Risks
Potential risks include vaginal irritation or stenosis, bladder or bowel irritation (cystitis/proctitis), infection at the applicator site, and rare long-term effects such as fistula formation. Careful imaging-based planning helps minimize radiation exposure to nearby organs.
Alternatives
Alternatives may include additional external beam radiotherapy boost techniques (such as IMRT/SBRT) when brachytherapy is not feasible, or radical hysterectomy in early-stage disease where surgery is preferred over radiation-based treatment.
What we need to prepare a formal estimate
Share whatever you have — the care team will confirm the final checklist after reviewing your case.
Reports required
- Histopathology/biopsy report confirming cervical cancer
- Pelvic MRI and/or CT scan
- PET-CT scan (if performed, for staging)
- Details of prior external beam radiotherapy (dose, dates)
- Complete blood count (CBC) and biochemistry reports
- Prior chemotherapy summary, if given
- Cervical/vaginal examination notes from treating oncologist
Patient information needed
- Current stage and grade of cervical cancer
- Whether external beam radiotherapy has been completed
- Any allergies to anesthesia or contrast dye
- Current medications and comorbidities (diabetes, hypertension, etc.)
- Menstrual and pregnancy history
- Previous pelvic surgeries or radiation treatments
- General fitness for anesthesia (cardiac/pulmonary status)
Costs shown are indicative planning estimates based on typical pricing across leading Indian hospitals. They are not a quote — actual pricing depends on your case complexity, hospital choice, and length of stay. Share your reports for a personalized estimate.
How this directory is built
Doctors are matched using the specialty, location, condition (Intracavitary Brachytherapy) and procedure (Intracavitary Brachytherapy) recorded in their profiles. Inclusion is not an endorsement and does not guarantee a treatment outcome.
