Why consider treatment in India?
Many international patients consider India for aortic valve disease treatment for several reasons, including:
More affordable estimates
Competitive indicative costs compared with many other countries, for similar clinical standards.
Internationally accredited hospitals
Hospitals experienced in treating international patients.
Experienced specialists
Doctors who regularly manage similar cases.
Care coordination support
A team to help with planning, medical translation and follow-up.
What is Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR/TAVI)?
Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR/TAVI) is a minimally invasive procedure to replace a narrowed or diseased aortic valve without open-heart surgery, using a catheter-delivered artificial valve. It is commonly recommended for patients with severe aortic stenosis who are at intermediate to high surgical risk, or who prefer a faster recovery than open valve replacement. The new valve is expanded inside the diseased native valve, restoring normal blood flow from the heart.
Who may be considered?
Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR/TAVI) may be considered after a qualified specialist reviews your reports and medical history. Suitability varies from person to person and must be assessed by your treating doctor.
How does it work?
The artificial valve is delivered via a catheter inserted through the femoral artery in the groin, guided to the heart under imaging, and expanded to replace the diseased valve.
Transfemoral TAVR
Most PopularThe artificial valve is delivered via a catheter inserted through the femoral artery in the groin, guided to the heart under imaging, and expanded to replace the diseased valve.
Comprehensive Investigations
ECG, Echocardiography (TTE/TEE), Cardiac CT angiography, Coronary angiography, CBC, Kidney function tests, Coagulation profile, Carotid/peripheral Doppler
Treatment / Procedure Estimate
Stay in India
Usually Included in Hospital Package
- Pre-procedure cardiac evaluation and imaging
- TAVR valve device and delivery system
- Cardiac catheterization lab and hybrid OR charges
- ICU/CCU stay and standard hospital room
- Cardiac surgeon, interventional cardiologist and anesthesia fees
- Post-procedure ECG monitoring and initial follow-up
Usually Not Included
- International and domestic travel
- Visa and airport transfers
- Accommodation for attendant/companion
- Long-term cardiac medications after discharge
- Any additional procedures for other cardiac conditions found incidentally
Recovery and follow-up
Most patients are mobilized within 24-48 hours and can return to light daily activities within 1-2 weeks, with a follow-up echocardiogram and ECG scheduled before discharge and again at 30 days. Alternative-access approaches typically require a slightly longer recovery due to the small chest or vascular incision.
Risks
Potential risks include vascular access complications, stroke, need for a permanent pacemaker due to conduction abnormalities, paravalvular leak, and rarely, valve malposition requiring further intervention. Your cardiac team will assess individual risk based on anatomy and overall health before the procedure.
Alternatives
Alternatives include open surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) for lower-risk patients, balloon aortic valvuloplasty as a temporary measure, or continued medical management with regular monitoring for patients unfit for any intervention. The choice depends on surgical risk score, valve anatomy, and overall life expectancy.
What we need to prepare a formal estimate
Share whatever you have — the care team will confirm the final checklist after reviewing your case.
