What is PTBD (Percutaneous Transhepatic Biliary Drainage)?
PTBD is an image-guided drain placed through the liver into a blocked bile duct when ERCP cannot reach or adequately drain the obstruction. Under ultrasound and fluoroscopy, a needle enters a bile duct through the liver. A wire and drain are placed to an external bag or internalised when possible.
