Dr. Kaushal Madan — Principal Director & Head of Clinical Hepatology in Delhi NCR

Dr. Kaushal Madan is Principal Director and Head of Clinical Hepatology at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Saket, in the Delhi NCR, with more than 25 years of experience in gastroenterology and hepatobiliary medicine.

The liver is the centre of his practice. He manages chronic hepatitis B and C, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, liver cirrhosis, chronic liver disease, autoimmune liver diseases and portal hypertension. He also performs ERCP and therapeutic endoscopy, and manages acute and chronic pancreatitis and gastroesophageal reflux disease.

His first two qualifications were both taken at Maulana Azad Medical College at the University of Delhi: the MBBS and the MD in internal medicine. He then took the DNB in internal medicine through the National Board of Examinations and his DM in gastroenterology at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. In 2005 he held a Japanese Society of Gastroenterology research fellowship at Kinki University School of Medicine in Osaka.

He won the Sudhir Rehan Gold Medal in Medicine in 1997 and the Rakesh Tandon Book Prize as best outgoing DM gastroenterology student in 2003.

His society work is in transplant and liver medicine. He was Secretary General of the Indian National Association for the Study of the Liver from 2018 to 2021, and is a member of the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease, the Indian Society of Gastroenterology, the Liver Transplant Society of India and the Indian Society of Organ Transplantation. Two of those four are transplant bodies, which places his hepatology practice alongside the transplant programme rather than separate from it.

He practises across the Max hospitals at Saket and at Max Hospital in Gurgaon.
