Dr. Dilip M Babu — Senior Consultant in Hyderabad

Dr. Dilip M Babu is a Senior Consultant at Yashoda Hospitals, Somajiguda, in Hyderabad, with more than 24 years of experience in nephrology.

His list covers chronic kidney disease, diabetic nephropathy, glomerulonephritis and nephrotic syndrome, haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis, percutaneous renal biopsy, and transplant care from pre-transplant evaluation through post-transplant follow-up. Paediatric chronic kidney disease and paediatric dialysis sit alongside the adult work.

All three of his degrees were taken in Mumbai. He read MBBS at Seth G.S. Medical College and K.E.M. Hospital in 2000, took his MD in internal medicine at Grant Medical College and J.J. Hospital in 2004, and returned to K.E.M. for his DM in nephrology in 2008. He placed third in the MD examinations of the University of Mumbai and twelfth in India in the DM entrance examination.

His research from those years is transplant work, presented in successive conference seasons. He gave podium presentations at the West Zone Nephrology Meet in 2006 on transplant renal vein thrombosis and in 2008 on determinants of coronary calcification in end-stage renal disease, the latter winning the Burjis Khurshedji Award for best paper. Between them he presented posters on post-transplant urinary tract infection at ISOT in Bangalore in October 2007 and, extended to its effect on graft function at one year, at ISNCON in Delhi that December.

Taking the same question from a poster to a one-year outcome study is how a clinical observation becomes evidence. He is a member of the Indian Society of Nephrology and the Indian Society of Organ Transplantation.
