Developmental dysplasia of the hip surgery reduces and stabilizes a child's hip when a Pavlik harness, closed reduction or observation has not produced a stable, covered joint. The surgeon reduces the femoral head into the socket, removes blocks to reduction if needed, and holds the hip in a spica or with an osteotomy when coverage is still insufficient.
