What is Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD)?
ESD dissects a selected early GI neoplasm from the submucosa with an endoscopic knife, aiming for an en-bloc specimen when depth and margins are judged suitable. After marking and injection, the mucosa is incised and the submucosa dissected so the lesion comes out in one piece when feasible. The defect is inspected and sometimes closed.
