What is ASD Closure (Atrial Septal Defect)?
ASD closure seals an atrial septal defect—an opening between the heart's two upper chambers. The goal is to stop an inappropriate flow of blood across the atrial septum when a congenital-heart team judges that closure is indicated. Closure can be achieved by placing a device through a catheter or by surgical repair with sutures or a patch. The correct route depends on anatomy. The page does not diagnose a child, determine device eligibility or replace advice from a qualified paediatric cardiology and congenital cardiac surgery team.
