What is Laminectomy and Decompression?
Laminectomy and decompression is a spinal surgery that removes part or all of the lamina (bony arch of the vertebra) along with any thickened ligament or bone spurs to relieve pressure on the spinal cord and nerve roots. It is most commonly performed to treat lumbar or cervical spinal stenosis causing back pain, leg pain, numbness, or weakness that has not responded to conservative treatment. The goal is to create more space within the spinal canal to reduce nerve compression and improve mobility.
