What is Intracranial Aneurysm Coiling?
Intracranial aneurysm coiling is a minimally invasive endovascular procedure used to treat a bulging, weakened area in a brain artery (aneurysm) before it ruptures, or to secure it after a bleed. A catheter is guided through the blood vessels to the aneurysm, where soft platinum coils are deployed to block blood flow into it and prevent rupture or re-bleeding. It is a preferred alternative to open surgical clipping for many aneurysm types due to faster recovery and no craniotomy.
