Why consider treatment in India?

Many international patients consider India for male infertility treatment for several reasons, including:

More affordable estimates

Competitive indicative costs compared with many other countries, for similar clinical standards.

Internationally accredited hospitals

Hospitals experienced in treating international patients.

Experienced specialists

Doctors who regularly manage similar cases.

Care coordination support

A team to help with planning, medical translation and follow-up.

About the Procedure

What is ICSI?

ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) is an advanced form of IVF where a single healthy sperm is directly injected into a mature egg to achieve fertilization. It is primarily recommended for male-factor infertility such as low sperm count, poor motility, or abnormal morphology, as well as in cases of previous fertilization failure with conventional IVF. The procedure significantly improves fertilization rates and is performed by an embryologist under a specialized microscope in the IVF lab.

Who may be considered?

ICSI may be considered after a qualified specialist reviews your reports and medical history. Suitability varies from person to person and must be assessed by your treating doctor.

How does it work?

A single sperm, selected under high magnification, is directly injected into each mature egg retrieved after ovarian stimulation.

2 approaches available for this procedure:

Standard ICSI

Most Popular

A single sperm, selected under high magnification, is directly injected into each mature egg retrieved after ovarian stimulation.

Comprehensive Investigations

Estimated cost: $300 - $900

Semen analysis (sperm count, motility, morphology), hormonal profile (FSH, LH, AMH, testosterone), CBC, blood group, infectious disease screening (HIV, Hepatitis B/C, VDRL), transvaginal ultrasound, thyroid function test

Treatment / Procedure Estimate

Estimated cost in India: $3,000 - $5,500

Stay in India

Pre-procedure stay (outside hospital): ~3-4 days
Hospitalisation: ~10-12 days (cycle monitoring, no overnight admission)
Recovery period (outside hospital): ~2-3 days recommended
Total stay: approx 14-18 days

Usually Included in Hospital Package

  • Ovarian stimulation medication protocol review
  • Egg retrieval procedure under sedation
  • ICSI fertilization and embryo culture (up to Day 3/5)
  • Embryo transfer procedure
  • Embryology lab charges
  • Fertility specialist consultations during the cycle

Usually Not Included

  • Fertility medications/injections (billed separately)
  • Embryo freezing and annual storage fees
  • Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT), if required
  • Donor gametes (if needed)
  • Repeat cycles in case of failed fertilization or implantation

Recovery and follow-up

Most patients resume normal activities within 1-2 days after egg retrieval and embryo transfer, with a follow-up pregnancy test scheduled about 12-14 days later. Mild bloating or spotting is common and typically resolves without treatment.

Risks

Risks include ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), mild bleeding or infection at the egg retrieval site, and a small chance of egg or embryo damage during the injection process. Multiple pregnancy risk exists if more than one embryo is transferred.

Alternatives

Depending on the cause of infertility, alternatives may include conventional IVF (without sperm injection), IUI (Intrauterine Insemination) in milder male-factor cases, or use of donor sperm in severe cases of male infertility.

  • Transvaginal ultrasound / antral follicle count report
  • Previous IVF/ICSI cycle records, if any
  • Sperm DNA fragmentation test, if available
  • Infectious disease screening reports (HIV, Hepatitis B/C)
  • Karyotype report, if previously done
  • Any prior fertility treatment summary

Patient information needed

  • Age of both partners
  • Duration of infertility and prior diagnoses
  • Details of previous IVF/ICSI attempts and outcomes
  • Current medications and known allergies
  • Any history of genetic disorders in either partner
  • Menstrual cycle history (for female partner)
  • Lifestyle factors (smoking, alcohol use)
  • Preferred travel dates and accompanying person details

Costs shown are indicative planning estimates based on typical pricing across leading Indian hospitals. They are not a quote — actual pricing depends on your case complexity, hospital choice, and length of stay. Share your reports for a personalized estimate.

Common questions

FAQs about ICSI in Delhi NCR, India

What is Male Infertility?
Male infertility refers to a reduced or absent ability in a man to cause pregnancy, most commonly due to problems affecting sperm production, sperm function, or the transport of sperm through the reproductive tract. It is a medical condition with identifiable causes in the majority of cases, not simply a random occurrence.
What are the symptoms and health risks of Male Infertility?
Male infertility itself is usually silent—most men notice no symptoms other than the inability to conceive—but underlying causes may produce signs such as reduced libido, erectile or ejaculatory difficulties, pain or swelling in the testicular area, or signs of hormonal change such as reduced facial hair or gynaecomastia. Some structural causes, including varicoceles or obstructions, can be detected on physical examination even without obvious symptoms. It is important to note that the presence or absence of these signs alone is not sufficient to establish a diagnosis or determine the cause.
How is Male Infertility diagnosed?
Diagnosis typically begins with a detailed medical and reproductive history followed by a physical examination conducted by a specialist. Semen analysis is the cornerstone investigation and evaluates parameters such as sperm concentration, total motility, progressive motility, and morphology, assessed against WHO reference values; results are sometimes categorised by terms such as azoospermia (no sperm), oligospermia (low count), or asthenospermia (poor motility). Depending on initial findings, further investigations may include hormonal blood tests (FSH, LH, testosterone, prolactin), scrotal ultrasound, genetic testing (including karyotype and Y-chromosome microdeletion analysis), or, in certain cases, testicular biopsy—the appropriate combination of tests is determined by a qualified clinician based on each individual's findings.
How is Male Infertility treated?
Treatment is highly individualised and depends on the identified cause, the severity of impairment as established by investigation, and the couple's overall reproductive profile. Options span a wide spectrum: lifestyle and medical interventions may be sufficient in some cases, while others require minimally invasive or surgical procedures to correct an underlying structural problem or retrieve sperm for assisted reproduction. No single approach guarantees conception, and the most appropriate plan is always determined through a personalised assessment by a specialist.
Can Male Infertility be treated without a procedure?
Many causes of male infertility have meaningful non-surgical pathways. These include optimising lifestyle factors such as weight, smoking cessation, alcohol reduction, and avoidance of heat or toxin exposure; hormonal therapy for men with identified endocrine deficiencies; antibiotic treatment for reproductive tract infections; and assisted reproductive techniques such as intrauterine insemination (IUI) or in vitro fertilisation with intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) when sperm are present but function is impaired. The suitability of any of these options depends on the specific findings of each individual's assessment.
When is ICSI considered for Male Infertility?
ICSI may be considered only when it is appropriate for the confirmed diagnosis and the expected benefit outweighs the individual risks. The decision may depend on symptom severity, investigation results, previous treatment, overall health and the patient's goals. A specialist should discuss alternatives and recovery before any procedure is planned.
Which doctor treats Male Infertility?
Male infertility is typically evaluated and managed by a urologist with subspecialty training in male reproductive medicine or andrology, sometimes referred to as a reproductive urologist or andrologist. In many cases, care is coordinated with a reproductive endocrinologist or fertility specialist, particularly when assisted reproductive techniques are being planned.
How do I choose a doctor for Male Infertility?
When selecting a specialist or centre, it is worth asking about their specific experience with the cause identified in your case—such as varicocele repair, microsurgical sperm retrieval, or hormonal management—their access to a coordinated fertility team including embryologists and reproductive endocrinologists, and what follow-up and monitoring protocols they have in place after any procedure or treatment cycle.
What documents do international patients need to share for a medical evaluation?
Share a concise medical summary, symptom timeline, previous diagnoses, investigation and imaging reports, procedure or biopsy reports where relevant, current medicines, allergies and related treatment records. Provide clear copies with translations when needed. The reviewing doctor may request additional information before giving an opinion.
How does GAF Healthcare help international patients plan treatment in India?
Our care coordination team can review the initial information, help identify suitable doctors and hospitals, request a medical opinion where available, explain next steps and indicative cost information, and support practical planning before travel. A remote opinion does not replace an in-person examination or emergency care.
