What is CRT and CRT-D Device Implantation?
Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy (CRT) involves implanting a specialized device with leads placed in the heart chambers to coordinate the timing of ventricular contractions in patients with heart failure and electrical conduction delays. A CRT-D device adds a built-in defibrillator function to also protect against life-threatening arrhythmias. Both procedures aim to improve heart pumping efficiency, reduce heart failure symptoms, and lower hospitalization and mortality risk.

Recovery and follow-up

Alternatives may include optimized medical therapy for heart failure, conventional single/dual-chamber pacemakers if resynchronization is not indicated, or in select cases, heart failure surgical options such as left ventricular assist devices.
