Why consider treatment in India?
Many international patients consider India for acute ischemic stroke treatment for several reasons, including:
More affordable estimates
Competitive indicative costs compared with many other countries, for similar clinical standards.
Internationally accredited hospitals
Hospitals experienced in treating international patients.
Experienced specialists
Doctors who regularly manage similar cases.
Care coordination support
A team to help with planning, medical translation and follow-up.
What is Endovascular Stroke Intervention?
Endovascular Stroke Intervention, commonly known as mechanical thrombectomy, is a minimally invasive neurointerventional procedure performed to physically remove a blood clot blocking a major artery in the brain during an acute ischemic stroke. It is typically performed within a critical time window (usually up to 24 hours from symptom onset in selected patients) to restore blood flow and significantly reduce the risk of permanent disability or death. This procedure is performed by an interventional neuroradiologist or neurosurgeon using catheter-based techniques through the groin or wrist artery.
Who may be considered?
Endovascular Stroke Intervention may be considered after a qualified specialist reviews your reports and medical history. Suitability varies from person to person and must be assessed by your treating doctor.
How does it work?
A self-expanding stent-like device is deployed across the clot, capturing it so it can be withdrawn through a catheter, mechanically restoring blood flow.
Stent Retriever Thrombectomy
Most CommonA self-expanding stent-like device is deployed across the clot, capturing it so it can be withdrawn through a catheter, mechanically restoring blood flow.
Comprehensive Investigations
Non-contrast CT head, CT angiography (CTA) brain and neck, CBC, coagulation profile (PT/INR/aPTT), blood glucose, renal function test, ECG
Treatment / Procedure Estimate
Stay in India
Usually Included in Hospital Package
- ICU/NICU monitoring
- Neurointervention suite and device (stent retriever)
- Neurologist and interventional radiologist fees
- Post-procedure imaging (CT/MRI)
- Standard ward accommodation after ICU
Usually Not Included
- Long-term rehabilitation and physiotherapy after discharge
- Speech and occupational therapy
- Repeat imaging beyond standard protocol
- International travel and accommodation for attendants
- Home nursing care post-discharge
Recovery and follow-up
Patients are typically monitored in the ICU/NICU for 24-48 hours post-procedure, followed by transfer to a step-down unit; structured neuro-rehabilitation including physiotherapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy is strongly recommended for optimal functional recovery. Follow-up brain imaging and neurologist review are scheduled before discharge and again at 4-6 weeks.
Risks
Potential risks include intracranial hemorrhage, vessel perforation or dissection, incomplete or failed recanalization, clot fragmentation causing new-territory stroke, and access-site complications; in rare cases the procedure can be life-threatening despite intervention.
Alternatives
Alternatives include intravenous thrombolysis (tPA) alone in eligible patients within the treatment window, or conservative medical management with antiplatelet therapy and supportive care for patients who are not candidates for endovascular intervention.
What we need to prepare a formal estimate
Share whatever you have — the care team will confirm the final checklist after reviewing your case.

- CT angiography (CTA) or MR angiography of brain and neck
- CT/MR perfusion imaging (if performed)
- NIHSS stroke severity score and neurological examination notes
- Coagulation profile (PT/INR/aPTT) and CBC
- ECG and cardiac evaluation for AFib or arrhythmia
- Documented time of symptom onset/last known well
- List of current medications, especially anticoagulants/antiplatelets
Patient information needed
- Patient's age and body weight
- Exact time of stroke symptom onset
- Pre-existing conditions (hypertension, diabetes, atrial fibrillation, prior stroke)
- Current medications, especially blood thinners
- Baseline functional and mobility status before the stroke
- Allergy history, especially to contrast dye

Costs shown are indicative planning estimates based on typical pricing across leading Indian hospitals. They are not a quote — actual pricing depends on your case complexity, hospital choice, and length of stay. Share your reports for a personalized estimate.
How this directory is built
Doctors are matched using the specialty, location, condition (Endovascular Stroke Intervention) and procedure (Endovascular Stroke Intervention) recorded in their profiles. Inclusion is not an endorsement and does not guarantee a treatment outcome.
