Dr. Fatma Alshamsi

Dr. Fatma Alshamsi is a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Burjeel Medical City, Abu Dhabi, and a pioneering Emirati physician specialising in gastroenterology. She is the first Emirati specialist in inflammatory bowel diseases, including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Her advanced training spans North American institutions, building expertise across complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

Dr. Alshamsi completed her specialist education at the University of Ottawa, where she was the first female physician to participate in the Advanced Interventional Endoscopy Fellowship Program. She further developed her skills at McGill University, becoming the first female Emirati physician to specialise in advanced endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), diagnostic and therapeutic cholangioscopy, and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS).

With over 10 years of clinical experience, Dr. Alshamsi delivers expertise in complex interventional procedures including cancer staging, tissue sampling, internal drainage, nerve blocks, and fiducial placement for gastrointestinal malignancies. Her clinical focus encompasses inflammatory bowel diseases, pancreaticobiliary conditions, and advanced interventional endoscopy. She is fluent in Arabic and English.
