What is Carotid Artery Stenting?
Carotid artery stenting places a stent in a narrowed carotid artery, usually with an embolic-protection device, as a selected alternative to surgical endarterectomy. From femoral or radial access, the arch and carotid are engaged. A filter or other protection device is used when feasible, the lesion is predilated if needed and a stent is deployed.
