What is Hiatal Hernia Surgery?
Hiatal hernia surgery reduces stomach or other viscera from the chest back into the abdomen and repairs the diaphragmatic hiatus, often with an anti-reflux wrap when reflux physiology supports it. The hernia is reduced, the sac is managed as planned, crura are approximated, and a fundoplication may be added. Mesh is used only if the team judges the hiatus needs it.
